News & Rumors

7 June 2006: Wufoo just released a Questions and Screenshots page and updated their public demo. They said they're going to launch soon.

9 May 2006: flipt may be the first Y company to secure major funding.

9 May 2006: Well, Startup School has come and gone, and the Y Rumors lunch meetup didn't work. It turned out there was no internet available like there was last time, so I had trouble broadcasting the meetup location. I ended up eating with a cool group of people, though, who were taking notes collaboratively, on an ad-hoc wireless network, using SubEthaEdit. --rob

26 Apr 2006: The schedule of Startup School is now available on a Kiko calendar.

20 Apr 2006: Looks like we got 'em all. According to the Y Combinator FAQ, there are twelve Y companies in all. "Three have yet to launch, Wufoo and two others." These "two others" are presumably Simmery and AudioBeta. Edit: Hmmmm. Maybe Y Combinator wasn't counting Simmery because I found out at Startup School that there is another Y company, flipt. --rob

10 Apr 2006: Anonymous tip that Pixoh will be changing their name soon. --rob

8 Apr 2006: Check out my alexa comparison of the ycombinator companies. --justin

17 Mar 2006: Someone added brainguppy and stuffguppy to the Y Combinator company list, but as far as I know they are just side projects of a Y Combinator company (which one?). I got this info, by the way, from Aaron Swartz's and Paul Graham's comments on A Complete Dud. --rob

The actual project ended up being Simmery but they never really finished it as far as I know and have all moved on to other jobs. However, an extremely similar site, Consumating did end up getting bought by CNet. --AaronSw

17 Mar 2006: Just got a tip that Kiko 2 is coming out today. Will keep you posted. Yup. The rumor was right. Kiko now "has a brand new look." --rob

14 Mar 2006: Over at Paul Graham's Infogami blog there's a piece on choosing startup names. Paul writes, "Among the startups we've funded, the one whose name I like most hasn't quite launched yet, so I can't mention it." But then, at the end of the essay, he says, "The startup whose name I like most originally called themselves 'Webshaka.'" Now head over to youOS and note the bottom of the page: "© 2006 WebShaka, Inc." --rob

Someone created this page with Y Combinator company statistics. Thanks! --rob

9 Mar 2006: Wufoo just made it to Reddit. I actually saw it on paulgraham.com before Reddit. There's a link to the new Startup School and the application is made with Wufoo. There is also a list of speakers for the event.--rob

I have a development blog now. Apparently, like the regular site, anyone can edit it. This seems strange, but oh well. --rob

I actually do have one rumor. I heard that Thursday, March 7, 2006 is Investor Day at Y Combinator. (See step 12 at SFP 2006 for a brief description of what Investor Day is.) --rob
